Spekboom

The Spekboom is an interesting plant. It is considered a small-leafed plant, but those leaves are actually quite thick and filled with a watery liquid. Although the plants look small and frail, they are estimated to live up to 200 years. Their branches break off quite easily, but they are able to grow roots and take to the ground very quickly, creating a whole new plant. Spekboom can also grow up to 5 metres in height! As for the liquid inside, humans can survive by drinking it and it is even known to be used in some restaurants as a delicacy – it has a “lemony taste” and a high nutritional value.
