Having a lion next to the vehicle is quite something but when he is above you looking down on you, it really makes him live up to his name of “King of the Jungle”. We were extremely lucky to have witnessed a sight like this. Normally when a lion is next to the vehicle we “feel” its presence and of course treat him with utter respect. This day was slightly different as we were driving in a dry riverbed when we saw this male lion about 3-4 metres above us lying up on the river bank. I can truly say we felt his power – this is a sighting that will be hard to forget. He was not phased by us – it was as if we were not even worth a glance while he scanned around looking for a potential meal.
