Snouted Night Adder

Large animals are not the only ones you have to worry about here in the bush – you never know what might be around your feet! We had stopped for sundowners on game drive when we there was a slight movement a couple of metres away – and there we found a small snake, a snouted night adder. These snakes, though small, should be treated with the utmost respect. They have a Cytotoxic venom which kills off tissue around the bite area, and their bite can be extremely painful for a few days and leave a nasty scar. The night adder feeds mainly on toads and is actually active during the day and night. So one should always be on the lookout for them!
