Snake or skink?

Is it a skink or a snake? Little creatures like this are often mistaken for snakes because of their shape but they are actually part of the skink family, more commonly known as lizards. They are usually found burrowing under the ground, digging through the soil with their hard noses and feeding on the worms they find down there. But during a rainy period they are known to come out. They are used to moving underground and their movements above ground are much more awkward than snakes. Although they have no fangs or venom, they can still deliver a painful pinching bite and they will then writhe around, sometimes causing the skin to break – it’s best to leave them alone just in case what looks like a skink is in fact a snake!
