Gone fishing

It’s getting to the time of year when we start seeing the small dams and mud pans slowly drying up, leading to lots of activity around them. With the shallow water it’s difficult for the frogs and fish to escape predation by storks, hamerkops and eagles. It’s interesting to watch the birds as they walk through the water scraping and feeling with their feet, trying to disturb the frogs and fish and force them to the surface where they are ready to strike. And sometimes when they have the prey in their beaks they squeeze it and throw it to the ground, hoping it will play dead and they can then swallow it whole.
