It was quite a sight spotting a rather large western side-striped sand snake busy sunning himself at the lodge. The cameras were going and the snake was posing for us. And then out of nowhere BAM!!! it shot off at an indescribable speed. Within a split second it had grabbed a striped skink and proceeded to coil around it in the hopes of suffocating the prey.
We watched the whole ordeal unfold in front of our eyes. The snake was wrapped around the skink squeezing tighter and tighter until there was no life left in it. We then watched the snake swallow its prey. It’s not always about the big things – the little things can be just as exciting if not even more exciting than the big things.
Mother Nature can be cruel but the circle of life continues out here in the bush.
