Whilst out on patrol late in the evening we spotted this beautiful Spotted Eagle Owl up on a branch across the road, blending in almost perfectly with the tree. The Eagle Owl is among the largest of owls in the South African bush. They hunt creatures such as insects, snakes, birds and small mammals. It was an even more exciting moment when this amazing creature proceeded to react to the calls of another owl of the same species. When in pairs the male utters a soft double hoot ‘huh-hooo’ and the female will then respond with a lilting triple hoot ‘hoo-huh-hoooo’.
